As the UK family therapy community marks 50 years of systemic practice, research, and innovation, this Constellations Workshop offers a space for collective reflection, honouring the past, and envisioning the future. Through systemic constellations, we will explore the evolution of family therapy in the UK—acknowledging the pioneers, key developments, and institutional influences that have shaped the field.

By bringing systemic principles to our own professional history, we will explore the relationships, shifts, and tensions that have influenced our work over the decades. This experiential workshop provides an opportunity to recognise the contributions of past generations of practitioners and researchers, understand recurring themes in our collective journey, and explore how unresolved issues may continue to impact current practice and the future direction of the field.

Using systemic constellations, participants will represent different aspects of the UK’s family therapy community, from its early systemic influences to present-day innovations. Through this embodied, experiential process, we will gain insight into the systemic forces that have supported progress, as well as those that may have created barriers or divisions. By making these patterns visible, we open the door to integration, transformation, and renewed purpose.
