About this conference session

The workshop will explore the potential of cosmopolitan communication in couple work to respond to the common conflictual patterns that couples bring into therapy during times of relational distress. It will show that by unleashing the potential of systemic curiosity with compassionate inquiry, couples may be able to embrace more hopeful perspectives about their future, without losing the significance of any past events that continue to haunt them. Some ideas about the place of forgiveness will be included to explore the range of accounts that partners give when trying to recover their relationship.

Participants will gain a greater understanding of the practical application of systemic and communication approaches in the service of therapeutic hope. I will use examples from practice to demonstrate the approach and encourage participants to bring current practice dilemmas.
